1 week!

Jacob is one week old! I cannot believe a week has passed since he was born! It has been an incredible week. We have had so much fun loving our new baby. There are so many unique things about him already, we just love learning and discovering everything about him!

He has this cry when he is upset (during diaper changes! haha) that we call the 'goat boy cry' where he literally sounds like a goat! And another where he goes, "Nnnn-GA, Nnnn-GA!" We hate to hear/see him cry, but it is just so funny! He gets the hiccups a lot, but doesn't seem to mind. I think they calm him actually because I got them a lot while I was carrying him. He also 'barks' in his sleep sometimes! He makes a loud 'OWW!', usually twice in a row - ha!

He has 'alert' time where his eyes are wide open and he looks around, taking everything in and you can tell he is learning. It is so neat to witness. We call it the 'squirrel boy mode' because he gets really serious and looks kind of squirrely (haha). Many times the 'whistle boy' will come out during this time, where he looks like he is going to whistle. It is seriously the cutest thing ever. And when I blow 'raspberries' with my tongue while he is in this mode, his eyes open REALLY wide, and he moves his eyes, head and hands in slow motion!! It is really weird, but hilarious!

Jacob rolled over on our bed twice during his first week of life. It was amazing! I didn't believe Dan when he first told me, but then I saw it with my own eyes. It is amazing how strong his neck and back muscles are - all that kicking he did inside me built him up! He has little calf muscles and his thigh muscles are actually big! I have never seen muscles on a newborn. Oh, and his belly button stump came off after only 5 days. Thank God! That thing was so nasty.

Dan likes to make up songs, so naturally he immediately started that when we brought Jake home. Some of our favorites include, "What do you want from Daddy, what can Daddy do for you?", "Precious Little Boy" and "Somebody needs a diaper change!" We joke about making our own 'cd' for Jacob. haha. We have several nicknames for him already, including: Jake, Jacoby, Coby, Cobester, Cobes, Pal-y (Daddy's nickname for him)

We had our first visit with the pediatrician on Wednesday and Jacob is very healthy - everything seems to be going great. He is already over his birth weight, now at 8lbs 4oz! Breastfeeding has been more challenging than I thought it would be, so it was great to hear that he is successfully growing and gaining weight!

We took one week pictures on Friday of Jacob next to his teddy bear. He was so cute! Grandma Furrow made little 'birthday' signs for Jacob so we can take pictures each week for the first month, and then every month so we can see his growth over time, next to the bear. Such a fun idea! He is already growing so fast!

Today we took Jacob to meet his Great-Great Grandma Jean at her 102nd birthday party!! We were able to take a '5 Generation' picture with Great-Great Grandma Jean, Great Grandma Marge, Grandma Gerald, Mommy & Jacob! It was very special. Then we went to Grandma & Grandpa Gerald's for Shana's Graduation Party. It was fun to introduce Jacob to a lot of his family members! He sleeps a lot, especially in the afternoon, so it was easy to take him out, but not too risky since we were with family :)

5 Generations!!!

Yesterday Dan & I went out to run some errands and have our first 'mini' date to Starbucks to get lattes - alone! It was really nice. We had great conversation. But then we missed Jacob's sweet little face and went home to be with him! :)
