One of the questions Dan & I had about this position was the amount of travel it would require. The idea of moving to a foreign country (with a newborn and 2 little boys) only to have him immediately hop on a plane for extended periods of time was daunting. That was kind of a deal breaker for me. For us.
So we opted to have Dan transition into his new role before our move, which would allow him to start working sooner (which Anixter preferred) and get some travel out of the way before we moved as a family.
Again, let's be honest. The thought of being 7-8 months pregnant, taking care of two little ones on my own for weeks at a time (including weekends!!) while he started his job in England, so far away, did not sound appealing. At all. Nope. "No thanks," said my heart.
BUT.
It was better than the alternative of me being alone in a new country with 3 little ones (potentially a colicky baby, we didn't know...) and Dan in a different country each week as he learned his territory and new business. So we agreed.
Details of the agreement with Anixter:
*Dan would spend 8 weeks in Europe (2-3 weeks at a time)
*He would return home for short breaks in between (Easter & Spring Break)
*He would be home several weeks before our due date of June 15th
*START DATE: March 7
Details of the agreement between Dan & I:
*I could fly in friends and family to help out and keep me company
*Chicago to visit family & friends
*Big family vacation with both sets of grandparents
*Mini babymoon for just Dan & I
*Mini-vacation/getaway with the boys
With a start date established, the clock started ticking! We had a lot of fun things to plan, but also needed to take care of the big, important items like getting the house ready to sell and finding a new home in England. It seemed like a lot to do in such a short period of time. Not to mention I had the minor task of birthing a baby somewhere in there!
So we pulled out the calendars and started planning!
